Baltimore City updated its health directives to limit indoor church services to 25% of capacity. This is less than the 33% limit from the Archdicoese but we do not expect much impact to attendance at church. However, we have added a 9:30AM Mass in Spanish for the children and families of the Oratorio catechism program to help balance the number of parishioners at the Sunday Masses celebrated in Spanish.

Baltimore City has announced that Phase 2 will begin as of 5pm on Friday, June 19, 2020. Phase 2 allows for indoor church services. At this time, in accordance with Archiocesean guidelines, Mass can only be celebrated with a 30% capacity.
**IMPORTANT** OUR LADY OF POMPEI WILL NOT REOPEN THIS WEEKEND, JUNE 20 - 21. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO CHURCH.
Parish leaders are still getting the church ready to be the safety checklist as described by health officials and the Archbishop. Once everything has been installed and a plan has been finalized, Our Lady of Pompei will be ready to reopen. Our goal is to aim to reopen no later than July 4-5. However, ample noticed will be provided.
LOOKING AHEAD
As we prepare to reopen, there will be slight modifications for Mass times. There will just be on Sunday Mass in English and additional Sunday Masses will be added in Spanish. Your cooperation is important because we will limit the number of people entering the church for Mass to 30% capacity, and you will need to make adjustments and attend another Mass in Spanish, or in English, other than the one you normally attend.
Mass on Saturday will be unchanged - celebrated at 4pm in English and 7pm in Spanish.
Mass will continued be streamed on Facebook during the 4pm Mass so that parishioners who unable due to health or safety reasons, may still be able to participate and attend Mass.
Overall, when Mass resumes, the COVID19 virus will still be impacting us. There will be a lot of changes to keep people safe and to help avoid the spreading of the virus.
- The precious blood will not be offered during the Eucharist
- The communion host will only be given by hand.
- The exchanging of the peace will be discontinued.
- Every other pew will be closed for seating to allow for safe distancing.
- Ushers will direct you to take a seat. You may not be able to sit in your favorite pew. :(
- Ushers will dismiss pews for communion allow for safe distancing of parishioners and the priest.
- Ushers will dismiss pews when Mass is finished starting with the back so that there is not a large crowd of people in the center all at once.
- The collection will be taken at the end of Mass as parishioners leave.

Baltimore City has lifted the stay at home order and entered Phase 1 but with additional restrictions. Part of those restrictions direct outdoor church services only with 50 or less people. Our Lady of Pompei does not have outside space for outdoor Mass. Therefore, Mass continues to be suspensed and will be streamed on the church's Facebook page as follows:
- Tuesday & Thursday at 8am
- Saturday at 4PM (in English)
- Sunday at 8am (in English)
Fr. Giuliano will celebrate Mass privately and offer the scheduled intentions planned for the weekday and Sunday Masses. All Masses will be streamed live on the church's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PompeiBaltimore).

Regardless of the proclamation made by the President, Our Lady of Pompei will continued to be closed for public weekday and weekend Masses. We would like to remind you that government pronouncements do not dictate whether or not your discipleship is essential. Your discipleship has been essential always. The transformative grace of God comes to you through the Holy Spirit, whether you are sitting in a church, watching Mass online at home, or sitting in quiet mediating and praying. We all have had to adjust and be flexible with our worship, but this pandemic has called for much flexibility, not only in your worship, but in your work, in your home life, and in your social life.
Mass continues to be suspended for a several reasons:
- most importantly, Baltimore City still has a stay at home order in place. As long as this is in place, Mass will not resume.
- Related to the stay at home order, parishioners are mainly seniors and Latinos. Seniors are a high risk and Latino populations have a large number of COVID cases. The health of our parishioners and the prevention of spreading the virus is our main priority.
- There are many safeguards that need to be implemented as well for the return to Mass which we are working on accomplishing.
- there is renovation work being done that will not allow for Mass. (Mass may not continue once the work is complete)

Phase 1 Reopening
Archbishop Lori has started Phase 1 of reopening in the Archdiocese of Baltimore as of 5:00 PM on May 15, 2020. Phase 1 includes the following changes:
- Church may be open for private prayer
- The sacraments of reconciliation and baptism are allowed
- Only Masses for funerals and weddings are allowed at this time
For all of these changes, there is a limit of 10 attendees. In addition, distancing and wearing of face masks/coverings are required.
Public Mass is not resuming during Phase 1.
While the stay at home order has been lifted, it was amended to include "safer at home" directives. Many business and restaurants still remain closed at this time.
Looking Ahead
Archbishop Lori also announced that Phase 2 is scheduled to being on May 30-31. Assuming there are no changes from the Archbishop, the resuming of Mass is at the discretion of each parish and based on the local jurisdictions. Currently, Baltimore City has extended the Stay at Home order. If that order is still in effect on May 30-31, Mass will not resume at Our Lady of Pompei.

CLOSURES
In accordance to Gov. Hogan's stay at home directive, the Archbishop has instructed all churches to be fully closed until further notice. This includes opening the church to private prayer for 10 or less people and administering confession except in situations where the person is danger of dying. All Mass, church activities including Oratorio/Catechism classes are canceled until further notice.

La ciudad de Baltimore actualizó sus directivas de salud para limitar los servicios religiosos en interiores al 25% de su capacidad. Independientemente de la proclamación hecha por el presidente Trump, Nuestra Señora de Pompeya continuará cerrada para las Misas públicas de lunes a viernes y fines de semana. Nos gustaría recordarle que los pronunciamientos del gobierno no dictan si su discipulado es esencial o no. Tu discipulado ha sido esencial siempre. La gracia transformadora de Dios viene a ti a través del Espíritu Santo, ya sea que estés sentado en una iglesia, viendo la Misa en línea en casa, o sentado en una mediación silenciosa y orando. Todos hemos tenido que adaptarnos y ser flexibles con nuestra adoración, pero esta pandemia ha exigido mucha flexibilidad, no solo en su adoración, sino también en su trabajo, en su hogar y en su vida social.
La misa continúa suspendida por varias razones:
- lo más importante, la ciudad de Baltimore todavía tiene una orden de estadía en el hogar. Mientras esto esté en su lugar, la Misa no se reanudará.

Fase 1 Reapertura

CANCELACIONES
De acuerdo con la directriz de estadía en el hogar del gobernador Hogan, el arzobispo ha dado instrucciones a todas las iglesias para que estén completamente cerradas hasta nuevo aviso. Esto incluye abrir la iglesia a la oración privada para 10 personas o menos y administrar la confesión, excepto en situaciones en las que la persona corre peligro de morir.
